Applicants Sought for 2010-2011 Leadership Granbury Class

15th Annual Leadership Granbury Class set to begin in September

Granbury, TX July 10, 2010: The 2010-2011 class of Leadership Granbury will begin September 9, 2010. The class will meet on the second Thursday of every month, September 2010 through May 2011. Sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and typically last throughout the entire day. Various entities host the class the locations throughout Granbury and Hood County, where class members are educated about community history, area social services, city and county government, medical facilities and the Granbury Independent School District and other points of interest.

The organization’s mission is to create a pool of potential leadership talent that will make strong, knowledgeable elected officials, board members and other types of leaders that will serve this area in the future. It is also an excellent opportunity for local business leaders to interact and form new alliances with fellow classmates and leaders throughout the community. Leadership Granbury also sponsors two scholarships for local high school graduates.

Many Leadership Granbury Alumni stay active after their graduation by attending organizational functions, assisting the current class curriculum, serving on the Board of Directors and participating in charitable events sponsored by the organization. The ongoing networking and support opportunities are mutually beneficial to Leadership Granbury graduates and the community.

Leadership Granbury also sponsors a junior leadership program open to local high school juniors for the 2010-2011 school year. It is a leadership development program for high school juniors, designed to train students in leadership qualities and techniques by exposing them to various community leaders, community organizations and programs. This experience helps generate ideas toward career direction, and helps participants become more aware of community issues, community resources and the importance of leadership qualities and other factors influencing Granbury’s future.

Participation in this program will help make a positive impact on the quality of life in our community, as well as present participants with educational opportunities that will assist with each participant’s career path.

Participation in the program also provides an advantage to those who apply for the Leadership Granbury Scholarship, which is awarded to at least one senior each year. Applications for this program are available at Granbury High School or on the GISD website www.granburyisd.org located on the GHS home page. Junior Class leaders will be Kathy Phillips, 817-894-1388 and Doreen Skoney, 972-804-8114.
