Grand Marshal Set to Lead Hometown Parade Festivities

Granbury, Texas – Adding ‘Grand Marshal’ to his resume pales in comparison to his other honors and to his service to this great nation. Retired Air Force Major General Chris Adams will lead the appropriately themed “Celebrating Our Heroes” Hometown Parade on Monday July 4th as part of Granbury’s 37th Annual Celebration.

Adams is native of Tomball, Texas, and after graduating from Tomball High School, he moved north to attend Tarleton State University where he obtained his degree. He also received degrees from Texas A&M University – Commerce and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

He retired from the United States Air Force in the grade of Major General and Chief of Staff, Strategic Air Command. He is a designated Air Force Command Pilot; veteran of the Cold War and Vietnam; with over 8,000 flight hours logged in a variety of aircraft including the B-36, B-52, EC-135 and C-141, along with 1,100 hours flying the venerable C-47 “Gooney Bird” in the Vietnam Conflict. During his Air Force career he served as a bomber and ICBM crew commander, wing commander, air division commander and senior staff officer with the Defense Nuclear Agency and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He retired from the Air Force to accept an appointment as Associate Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He later joined ANDREW Corporation as Vice President of Government Systems where he worked extensively in Australia, Korea, Saudi Arabia, China and the Soviet Union making some 23 extended visits to Russia and the former Soviet States alone.

Adams remains active in numerous areas; having served on the Board of Directors and President, DeCordova Bend Estates; Tarleton and Texas A&M~Commerce Foundations, including Chair of the latter and past president of the Tarleton Alumni Association. He also served on the Texas A&M University Chancellor’s Advisory Council for five years. Appointed by Governor Rick Perry, he presently serves on the Brazos River Authority Board of Directors.

A published author, he has drawn his extraordinary knowledge and experience in strategic air operations, nuclear weapons and the culture of the former Soviet Union in developing and publishing eight books oriented within the Cold War era. He is currently co-authoring a ninth book entitled, “TEXAS – A Free Nation Under God”, due out in July.

His military awards include the nation’s highest peacetime decoration, The Distinguished Service Medal; also The Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, two Air Medals for service in Vietnam Combat, four Air Force Commendation Medals and numerous other awards. Recently he was awarded the National Daughters of the American Revolution Medal of Honor for 2011.

Chris and his wife Alene have lived in the Granbury area since 1990. They have three daughters and one son, and six grandchildren including Captain Jacque Stauffer, U.S. Air Force.

The Granbury Chamber of Commerce invites you to the 37th Annual Hometown Parade on Monday, July 4th starting at 10 a.m. This year we ask for your help in “Celebrating Our Heroes” and their sacrifices for our freedom. The chamber also plans to have several veteran floats accompany the Grand Marshal’s car to kick off this year’s spectacular parade.
